Whether you work in a digital agency, in the marketing division of a corporation or you’re a freelancer who does community management, you’re probably well aware of the power of a good photo>. Bad quality, as well as inappropriate or boring photos,  have an incredible ability of ruining your posts, no matter how great your copy might be. Good thing is – great photos are not hard to find. (That is if you know where to look.) There are many sites that provide free photos, and we have sorted out our favs:

#1 StockSnap.io

StockSnap has a great choice of all sorts of photos, which is only a partial reason for it being our first choice on this free photo sites list. Photos you’ll find there are carefully selected and really inspiring, and many of them are true pieces of art. The site is initiative and easy to use. All photos fall under the Creative Commons Zero CC0 license, which means you can use them for commercial purposes without asking permission or giving attribution.

#2 Pexels

Another great site with the huge database of good photos. If you’re in a hurry to find a suitable photo for your post, chances are you’ll find what you need here and won’t stumble upon the most random photo that’ll make you ask yourself what are you even doing there. All photos on Pexels are licensed under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license and can be used for any legal purpose. (Click for license details.)

#3 Pixabay

Pixabay contains over million of free photos, videos, vectors and art illustrations>. The site is also under Creative Commons CC0, so there are no worries about using photos for commercial purposes (find details). With a large variety of quality pics, Pixabay allows you to use filters in order to end your photo quest faster.

#4 ISO Republic

ISO Republic got its place on our list due to its high-quality photos for creative professionals. It now offers more than 2,500 free images with the number growing daily. Like most others, ISO Republic offers main categories of photos (architecture, food/drink, nature, people, city, technology, texture, various) which makes your searches easier. Photos are free to use for personal and commercial purposes, and you can find all the terms here.

#5 Gratisography

This site makes me smile as I’m writing about it. The author of all the photos Ryan McGuire uses photography to express himself weekly. His photos are unique, weird and will definitely add that wtf effect to your posts if that’s what you’re after. He says he makes art “to share a part of my imagination with the world and to make you smile” and he’s succeeding if you ask me. You can read the terms here.

#6 Unsplash

One of those sites that’ll end up in your bookmarks. In Kontra, we looove the Unsplash because of its vivid colors and light, lively, gentle photos. If you need an inspiration and want to wow your audience with artistic content, seek no further. And if you need people on your photos (which could sometimes be hard to find), this is a place to search. Also, you’ll probably find the most beautiful food photos here. Unsplash never disappoints and is definitely one of our favorite sites. Photos can be used for commercial and non-commercial purposes. (Read details here.)

#7 Picjumbo

With his photos sorted into 16 categories, Viktor Hanacek offers great free photos on this useful page. We have two warnings though – don’t go through his photos hungry and remember, you are probably there only for one photo so don’t stay all day just watching at his awesome work. You’re free to use photos pretty much as you want – terms are available on the page.

#8 Kaboompics

If colors and details are what you’re looking for, Kaboompics is the place. This site is a beautiful product of the hard work of photographer and a graphic designer Karolina who says the vision behind Kaboompics is “to help you visualize your world, your business, and your ideas for life”. Karolina encourages users to give attribution, although the latter is not needed. Detailed terms find on her website.

#9 The Stock 2

This site consists of multiple sites and also contains videos and mockups. We’re crazy about this one because the search results on it (e.g Magdeleine page) often look like some traveling photographer Instagram profile. Enjoy your search but be careful and check the terms of using the chosen photos.

There – that is our top 9 amazing sites that’ll help you shine. If you have some great sites to add, let us know your choice!
